FREQUENLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How Much Do Braces Cost?

Braces usually cost $3,000 to $9,000 in the United States. Most patients pay somewhere between $3,000 to $5,000 for limited treatment or early Phase I treatment for children.  Adolescents and adults pay somewhere between $5,500 and $8,000 for comprehensive traditional metal braces or clear aligners like Invisalign.  Invisalign tends to cost more than braces due to added laboratory expenses.

That wide range happens because every mouth is different — just like fixing a car: a simple battery replacement costs a few hundred dollars, but a new transmission can cost thousands. Orthodontic treatment works the same way.

What Actually Determines the Price?

Here are the main things that change the cost:

  1. How complicated your case is

    • Simple crowding or small gaps = lower cost & shorter time

    • Severe overbite, underbite, open bite, or jaw misalignment = higher cost & longer treatment (sometimes 2+ years or even jaw surgery)

    • Additional appliances such as a palatal expander will add to the base cost

  2. How long treatment takes

    • Average: 1–2 years

    • Shorter treatment (6–12 months) = cheaper

    • Longer treatment (2+ years) = more expensive

  3. Type of braces or aligners

    • Metal braces: usually the most affordable & most cost effective

    • Ceramic (clear) braces: a bit more than metal braces

    • Invisalign or clear aligners: often more than metal or ceramic braces

  4. Your age

    • Kids/teens usually finish faster (growing jaws & teeth move easier) → often cheaper

    • Adults can take longer (harder bone, worn teeth, restorations) → often costs more

  5. Where you live

    • Big cities or high-cost of living areas = higher prices

    • Smaller towns or lower-cost of living areas = usually lower

  6. Who treats you

    • Certified orthodontist (specialist): usually higher fee but best will yield the best results

    • General dentist doing braces: sometimes cheaper, but may take longer or have more issues because they lack the training or experience

  7. Extra steps needed

    • Tooth extractions, X-rays, gum treatment, or other prep work = adds to cost

  8. Payment & insurance

    • Our practices offer 0% interest payment plans

    • Dental insurance may cover $1,000–$3,500 (mostly for kids under 19)

    • Paying in full upfront often gets an additional discount
